ZODIACAL Group, VEN

- And we are with Zodiacal Group. Yes. Hey guys, how are you doing? - Doing good. How about yourself? - Man, very happy, man, to have you here. Young people, young men singing Hispanic music, you know, Norteño, Texano. So it's really, really amazing. Please give me your name. - My name is Salome Lopez. I'm 15 years old, and I play accordion and sing for Grupo Zodiacal. Cool. My name is Dominic Lopez, and I'm 14 years old. I play the ballroom piano for Cucuz Oreca.
My name is Joe Lopez, I'm 14 years old, and I play the drums for Cucuz Oreca.
Oh my goodness, you are so young, guys. Yes. It's amazing. I'm so curious, why did you start to sing this kind of music? So you were born in the US, right?
Yes. And where? Lubbock, Texas, Tohoku, Texas, around there. Texas, yes.
So what were your intentions, you know, to play this kind of music?
Well, whenever we were all younger, our grandfather, he always loved music. He has vinyl records signed by Ramona Ayala, Cornelio Reyna, like a bunch of people, and they'd always, whenever they played near Lubbock, they'd go to his house and eat and whatnot. And so whenever we were younger, he'd give us instruments, and he gave me an accordion. And so instead of sleeping with the teddy bear at night, I'd sleep with the accordion, and the accordion has just always been with me, but I never really knew how to play it until I was about 10 or 11 years old. I started picking up the accordion little by little. And my brothers, whenever we were younger, we'd always play with the little kiddie instruments you'd get from a flea market or whatever. And we'd always just sit outside and try to play for money.
- Really? Wow, man. - So, yeah. - So, since kids, you started to play any instrument and sing this music? - Yes. Even though he didn't know how to play it, he had a love for it. And he always wanted us to learn it and to hopefully be what we're doing today. Yeah, and why in Spanish? So, you speak a little bit of Spanish, but why in Spanish if you are very fluent in English? We chose to do Spanish because it's just something that we've always listened to. It's something that most kids our age, they don't listen to. They always listen to, you know, like rap or hip hop or country, but it's something that we always grew up listening to and something that's just normal to us. Wow. I can hear you guys. You speak really good Spanish. You sing in Spanish like natives, man. That's awesome. So, how many songs do you have already on your discs?
So with Grupo Zodiacal, we have one single album. It's 10. But before we started Grupo Zodiacal, we had a small project called Salome Lopez. And that was still everybody in Zodiacal, but it was just going under my name. And we released two songs under that name. The Lopez brothers. Yes, sir. Cool man, cool man. So tell me about this single, "Ven". So who is the creator of this single?
Yes, sir, Mr. José Luis García. He wrote "Ven," and he's written countless other songs for different bands. So whenever we started Grupo Zodiacal, my father and Mr. Jordan Rodríguez, the frontman of Grupo Asalto, they reached out to José Luis García and they asked him "Hey, my boys just started a band, can you write us a song?" And so, Jose Luis Garcia, "We're back to them, you send them 'ven'." And so we didn't know the song was for us at first because I remember we're getting ready for a show in Marford, Texas. And Jordan calls me, he's like, "Can you bring your accordion and bajo to the room real quick?" And I'm like, "Oh yeah, sure." And so we go to the room and he starts playing, ♪ Ven, ven, ven, dame un beso ♪ And you know, all of us were all bopping our heads, we were vibing with it. And so after that, he's thinking, he's like, I think to myself, I say, "Dang, that's a good song, you know?" And so after the song's over, he tells us, he's like, "So what do y'all think of it?" And all of us were all like, "Oh man, we like it." You know, all of us thinking that he's gonna record it, you know, it's not gonna be ours. And he gives me the Bacho and the Courtney, he's like, "Well, it's y'all's song." And so all of us were just like, kind of starstruck. Wow man, that's amazing. So you like the song because you want your girlfriend to give you a kiss, right? Yes sir. Do you have a girlfriend's name? I don't, he does. You do? I don't. Oh man, two on one, so it's not bad. But I think this song is gonna promote you guys and you have a lot of girls behind you guys, so be ready. This is amazing, so tell me about your video, your video is amazing. Where did you record this video? at Rudy Lopez's ranch over here in San Antonio, Texas.
